Slurry Sealing Work to Begin Wednesday, September 29

The Town’s street maintenance contractor, Slurry Pavers, Inc., will be performing roadway improvements beginning September 29, weather dependent.  A map showing the locations of the work can be found here.  Slurry sealing involves applying a protective coating on asphalt pavement.  It is a cost-effective maintenance procedure intended to extend the life of older roads that are still structurally sound.

“No Parking” signs, indicating the date of the slurry sealing (and crack filling if applicable), will be posted on affected streets at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled work.  The contractor expects to begin work on the east side of Town.  Please move your vehicles from the road and park them in your driveway or on streets without parking restrictions by 8:00 a.m. on the day the work is scheduled.  No work will be done after 5:00 p.m.  Once the slurry sealing is completed, and the protective coat has been allowed to dry (approximately four hours), parking prohibitions will be lifted.

Cars parked on a street that has been posted “No Parking” are subject to towing.  We will try to avoid towing but, if it is necessary, we will tow cars to the Leland Center parking lot.  Residents can retrieve their cars by coming to the Leland Center.

When the slurry seal mixture is freshly applied and still wet, please take care to ensure that your pets and children do not come into contact with the material, as it is exceedingly messy and easily tracked.  Also, please avoid driving over the slurry seal during the drying time.  One side of each road to be slurry sealed will be closed to traffic for approximately four hours after the slurry seal is applied.  If you need to access your home during this time, please do so by foot, if possible, rather than by car.

In case of inclement weather or other delays, slurry sealing will be rescheduled and “No Parking” signs will be reposted in advance of the rescheduled work.  Please call the Town office at 301-654-7144 for up-to-date schedules.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call the Town office.
