Preliminary Results from Operation “Turkey Chase” | Crime

The following information was sent to us by the Montgomery County Police Department:
Last evening, the Montgomery County multi-agency Holiday Task Force conducted Operation “Turkey Chase”, an initiative to deter underage drinkers and impaired drivers through organized alcohol enforcement efforts throughout the county. The night before Thanksgiving is known as one of the busiest nights for underage drinking during the year.
This year, 39 members participated in Operation “Turkey Chase” from Montgomery County Police, Montgomery County Sheriffs Office, Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Maryland State Police, Gaithersburg City Police and Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control.
The following are the preliminary statistical results:
Vehicles stops: 265
Warnings issued: 157
Traffic citations issued: 138
DUI arrests: 19
Equipment repair orders: 15
Criminal charges:

Alcohol establishment checks: 8
Vehicles through phantom sobriety checkpoints:
Wisconsin Avenue at Jones Bridge Road: 1558

Police continue to emphasize the importance of not driving while impaired and remind drivers that the Holiday Task Force will continue through January 14, 2012.
