Join hundreds of animal lovers for the most fabulous gala for all animal lovers in the city. Celebrate the compassionate work of the Montgomery County Humane Society, saving thousands of homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and other animals.

2nd Annual “Be Brave and Shave” Heroes against Cancer Fundraiser

Members of the Montgomery County Police Department and Fire & Rescue Service have volunteered to have their heads shaved as participants in this special fundraiser.  Montgomery County Assistant Police Chief Drew Tracy along with approximately 50 officers and firefighters (including at least one female officer and her firefighter husband) will have their heads shaved by volunteer stylists from the Hair Cuttery.

Those who would like to donate in support of the Montgomery County first responders can log unto:  www.firstgiving.com/montgomerypoliceandfire.  The gross proceeds will provide funds to support the McKnew Cancer Research Endowment Fund, hire staff in the Center, and support unbudgeted research initiatives.

County Executive to Host the First Diwali Celebration To Honor Indian Cultural Heritage

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will host the County’s first Diwali celebration on Monday, November 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in honor of the most important holiday in Indian culture and to highlight one of the largest ethnicities in Montgomery County.  The free event will be held at the Executive Office Building, Lobby Level Auditorium, 101 Monroe St., Rockville.

Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is a five-day holiday between mid-October and mid-November observed by people of Indian heritage worldwide.  The public education and celebration program will feature remarks, a lighting ceremony, Indian dance and a reception with refreshments.  All food and supplies are being donated by community sponsors. 

The event is co-sponsored by the County Executive’s Office of Community Partnerships and the County Executive’s Asian American Advisory Group.
