Halloween Candy for Troops

This  year, make Halloween about more than just collecting or distributing candy for  kids to eat (or overeat!). Participate in Treats-4-Troops, a post-Halloween candy collection project by MoverMoms.  Donate any or all of it to US troops serving in Iraq , Afghanistan , and    Kuwait , and thereby:

    * TEACH kids about the joys of giving and sharing!

    * BRIGHTEN a soldier’s day!

    * GET the candy out of your house!

MoverMoms,  a Bethesda-based non-profit, will donate all candy to a West Virginia-based  non-profit that packs it in Christmas stockings for troops of all faiths.   Last year the candy that MoverMoms collected in DC,  Maryland and  Virginia filled over 11,000 stockings. Tree Removal Hearing

A public hearing will be held by the Town’s Tree Ordinance Board in the Town Hall on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the tree removal request of Emily Yoffe, 7414 Oak Lane.

On September 24, 2010, the applicant filed a permit application with the Town to remove a tulip poplar tree greater than 24” in circumference from the front yard of the property, as shown on the attached sketch.  The Town Manager did not find that the tree is dead, dying, or in danger of falling; a hazard to the safety of persons or property; or an undesirable tree species; therefore, the tree removal permit application was denied.
