Hit the Trail

What would you expect a four-and-three-quarter-year-old to say at the end of a four-and-a-half-mile hike that she just finished using her own two feet? “What a wonderful day,” Sofi announced when we walked past the old Tavern (that I was wishing was still a tavern) at Great Falls National Park.

A Dose of Nature

Wow.  I just got back from working out outside…talk about something nourishing for the mind and soul.  Now that the weather is consistently warmer it has been wonderful to work out in the fresh air and amongst nature.

Walking, running, stretching is a great way to clear the mind…just what the doctor ordered.  My schedule has been extremely busy and although I am good at balancing work and life, the life piece has recently kicked in between a long distance elderly mother, the kids, and the everyday stresses of life.  So what’s the best medicine…exercising out in nature is top on my list!  Natural endorphins are released into your body when you exercise and you feel better…mentally and physically.

So here’s what you can do if you’re feeling stressed and you want to clear your head:

Favorite Fridays: What's Your Favorite Lunch Spot in Bethesda? Take our Poll!

Every Friday I will feature a favorite place or item of mine and then have a poll to get your feedback.

On June 10th, I stopped by my preferred lunch spot, Sweetgreen on Bethesda Avenue, for a quick and healthy Santorini Salad (440 calories).

I have tried a few of their signature salads including: The Bondi, Curry Gold, and the most popular Guacamole Greens, but for summer I feel that the Santorini, with chopped romaine lettuce, roasted shrimp, feta cheese, grapes, fresh mint, chickpeas; topped with a fresh lemon squeeze is by far the best. The mint and lemon create a zesty flavor with no added sugar for the calorie conscious.

I occasionally get the cucumber basil yogurt dressing on the side in case I want to liven it up a bit; but trust me the lemon squeeze is all you need and you will save 100 calories!
