Potomac River - - Just Stay Out! Firefighters Distribute Safety Tips Over the Holiday Weekend

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were out in force over the Memorial Day weekend in and around the Potomac River reminding visitors of the inherent dangers associated with the river and passing out safety tips aimed at informing and educating visitors to stay out of the Potomac River.

Considerable interagency cooperation at the local, county, state and federal levels has focused attention on methods to prevent drownings in and around the Potomac River since 2004. The presence of Montgomery County Firefighters distributing bi-lingual educational materials over the holiday weekend served to underscore the continued commitment and importance of this initiative and the goal of “zero” drownings as the summer season kicks off in the Washington Metropolitan area.

There are Yoga Classes for Everyone

There are Yoga Classes for Everyone

I have been hesitating to start taking yoga because I am not flexible and all the people I know that take yoga are flexible. Is there a yoga class for me?

Absolutely. The people you know that are taking yoga are flexible BECAUSE they are practicing yoga. They are not necessarily practicing yoga because they are flexible!

Most of the yoga classes offered at studios and fitness centers teach the physical practice of yoga (asana) which is designed to increase flexibility, strength, and balance.

In classes you will be taught how to get into and out of poses safely, lengthen and strengthen muscles and to move in new and different ways than you are accustomed to moving.  New patterns of movement bring on increased flexibility and strength.

Tips for Eating Healthfully From a Vending Machine

Tips for Eating Healthfully From a Vending Machine

We live in a fast-paced world and, at one time or another, we have all found ourselves face to face with a vending machine, looking for a snack or beverage. The problem, up until now, has been that vending machine food was always synonymous with junk food or unhealthy options. But a new company has set out to change the way people see vending machines, and the nutrition that they get from them.

“Maybe it wasn’t easy to find healthy, tasty food from vending machines before, but we have made it our mission to change that,” explains Jolly Backer, the chief executive officer of Fresh Healthy Vending (www.freshvending.com). “Now, people can get a nutritious snack or beverage, whether they are playing, working, or at school. We are on the move and hopefully coming to an area near you soon.”
