WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) --- The Lunar New Year festivities cannot be complete without a feast. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, marks the beginning of the traditional New Year for many Asian countries following the lunar calendar.

On 9NEWS NOW at Noon, Larry La, owner of the Chinese restaurant, Mei Wah, explains what certain foods mean on the New Year dinner table.

Watch as La speaks with JC Hayward about the symbolism in oranges and noodles. Wealth and longevity are both represented meanings. La also mentions the money-filled red envelopes that the elderly give to loved ones.
