Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will celebrate the purchase of 13 new, American-made Ride On buses -- 12 hybrid electric-diesel buses and one clean diesel bus -- using

$6.55 million in federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds provided by the State of Maryland.

Ride On has a fleet of 339 buses.  With this new acquisition, its environmentally-friendly buses will comprise nearly two-thirds of the fleet, of which 18 percent are hybrids, 27 percent are compressed natural gas buses (CNG) and 19 percent are clean diesel.

Joining Leggett will be Montgomery County Councilmembers George Leventhal, Marc Elrich, and Hans Riemer; U.S. Senator Ben Cardin; U.S. Representatives Chris Van Hollen and Donna Edwards; Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff; Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Beverley Swaim-Staley; State Senator Roger Manno; and State delegates Tom Hucker and Ana Sol Gutierrez; Maryland Transit Administration Administrator Ralign Wells; Maryland Transit Administration Office of Planning Director Diane Ratcliff; and Gillig Regional Sales Manager Jerry Sheehan.
